Decorating a Mediterranean Garden

Published by Maggie on

The Mediterranean garden is known for its romantic elements which are characteristic of Italy and Spain, the simple design and great attention to details in the decorations. It has an abundance of plants with soft, bright colors, full of leaves, natural stone with pale shades, terracotta, brick ramshackle appearance and moss. These materials are used to make walls, ponds and other similar items, while the paths are made with gravel and stone tiles.

If there are good conditions for them,  typical Mediterranean trees are palms, cypress, olive, lemon or orange. For colder areas, you can plant vines, which will have the role of a shed or a fence.

Another great idea for this type of garden is a pergola (a covered area). The pergola is perfect for any Mediterranean garden because it looks beautiful and really gives the whole garden its distinctive concept, but also it has useful advantages in providing shade for you to rest under. All you have to do is to find the perfect set of Mediterranean style patio furniture.

The most popular flowers in Mediterranean gardens are roses, lavender, rosemary, sunflower … There are a variety of terracotta pots in different shapes and sizes which can be used for planting flowers or just empty for decorative purposes.

Water as an element is particularly common in these gardens, in the form of a fountain, pond, fish pond, waterfall or swimming pool.

For this type of gardens, which enchant us with their spontaneity and are relatively simple to maintain, the most characteristic elements are aromatic plants and terracotta.
